Elland Road transfer news: Major update on potential Leeds deal for Brenden Aaronson

Leeds United are likely to revisit signing RB Salzburg attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson in the summer, says transfer insider Pete O’Rourke.

The Yorkshire club failed to sign the 21-year-old last month, but O’Rourke thinks this saga is far from over.

According to The Athletic, Leeds had an initial £15m bid for Aaronson rejected by Salzburg in the January transfer window.

Sky Sports then went on to claim that an increased £20m offer was made, but it was evidently not enough, as the American remained at the Red Bull Arena.

It looks like Aaronson could be available at the end of the season, though, with Phil Hay recently stating that there is a belief that he will be up for grabs in the next window.

Aaronson has been a key player for Salzburg this term, making 27 appearances in all competitions, so it is hardly a shock that Leeds found signing him last month impossible.

O’Rourke, however, is expecting Marcelo Bielsa to return for the USA international in the summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about Leeds’ failed January pursuit of Aaronson, the football journalist said: “They were obviously frustrated in their attempts to sign RB Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson. That one looks like it will be revisited in the summer.”

It looks like Aaronson will be Leeds’ priority in the summer after the Premier League outfit tried so hard to sign him in the transfer window that has just gone.

However, you cannot help but feel that the club should be throwing everything at signing a new striker first.

Patrick Bamford has, of course, proven himself at this level after scoring an impressive 17 goals in the Premier League last season.
