Spurs transfer news: £54m target Alessandro Bastoni tipped to 'become a defining talent of his generation'

Tottenham Hotspur target Alessandro Bastoni has a bright future ahead of him and boasts the potential to be a generational talent, according to Forza Italian Football journalist Conor Clancy.

Spurs left their January business until the final day of the window, with Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur heading to north London from Juventus, but it appears head coach Antonio Conte is eager to secure defensive reinforcements when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

According to The Telegraph, Inter Milan ace Bastoni has worked his way onto Conte’s radar ahead of potentially making a move at the end of the season.

The report suggests Conte, who was appointed as Spurs’ head coach in November, is eager to bolster his defensive options after failing to do so last month and has also added Lille’s Sven Botman and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol to his shortlist.

Bastoni has been among the defenders being tracked by Conte since shortly after his unveiling at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but it appears as though he would need to part with a considerable sum to secure the services of the Italian.

Transfermarkt values Bastoni at £54million and, with his £122,000-per-week contract not due to expire until the summer of 2024, Inter are in a strong negotiating position.

Meeting the 22-year-old’s valuation would result in Bastoni becoming the joint-most expensive arrival in Tottenham’s history.
