Spurs player ratings: Son sublime, Lloris brilliant, Hojbjerg battles, Kane & Kulusevski create
Saved low down from Cash in the 14th minute and soon after made a great close range palm away from Ramsey's point blank shot before making it a hat-trick of saves by pushing away McGinn's rocket from distance. Made another save before the break as he gathered at the second attempt from Cash's volley and an even better one right on the line to stop Coutinho's swerving free-kick from out wide. In all he made seven saves in the first half. He then turned creator with a pre-assist, firing a long accurate kick for Kane to head on to Kulusevski to score. Had relatively nothing to do in the second half but it was a deserved rest after his crucial first half.
The Argentine made a couple of big challenges in the first half to stop Villa attacks. He also pinged the diagonal ball that Kane flicked on to Son. Also crucially managed to avoid a yellow card, which means he can't now reach 10 Premier League bookings from his eight and a ban before they are wiped out after next weekend's match against Brighton. He punched the air after a late interception in the box.
Antonio Conte hints he wants key Tottenham transfer deal to unlock full Harry Kane potential
A couple of shaky moments in the first half but on the whole he dealt with most things that came his way to help Spurs keep a clean sheet despite the pressure in that first half.
Another solid battling display on the left of the defence as he mopped up much of what came his way.
Plenty of overhit or misplaced passes in the first half in a shaky display but he improved as the second half wore on and he got plenty of space to push forward and draw players away from Kulusevski.
Lead Spurs in the centre of the pitch with his battling and soaking up the tackles that rained in on him.
