Spurs: £18m Conte favourite suffers Hotspur Way setback

Oliver Skipp’s injury problems at Tottenham in recent months have been a “real shame” for the youngster, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The £18m-rated midfielder enjoyed a productive first half of the campaign, but he hasn’t featured since the end of January following an ongoing pelvic issue.

After returning from a highly-successful loan spell in the Championship with Norwich, Skipp came back to Spurs and instantly made himself a regular starter in midfield alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Despite having little Premier League experience, the 21-year-old quickly became one of the first names on the teamsheet and was a rare positive in an otherwise depressing opening few months of the season under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Nuno’s departure at the end of October saw Harry Winks come back into the frame, but Skipp was still near enough a nailed on starter.

But Skipp’s campaign took a turn for the worse after the defeat at Chelsea in January. Following the international window, which took place between the start of January and end of February, the ex-Norwich loanee suffered a pelvic injury, which has been bothering him ever since.

Skipp has now missed 13 games in all competitions, and it remains unclear exactly when the England Under-21 international might return to action after suffering a setback recently.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “They tried to get him to do some outfield work, but every time he felt some discomfort.

“But if the player keeps coming out and feeling discomfort they might have to say, ‘we’re going to have to sit down and sort this out if it’s a long-term issue’. It’s a real shame for him.”
