Springhill Boxing Club win big at Scottish Golden Gloves Championships
Springhill Boxing Club enjoyed great success at the Scottish Golden Gloves Open School and Junior Championships, taking three gold and two silver medals.
The tournament, held at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell over two weekends in February, saw five out of the eight boxers from the Shotts club get fights.
Kerr Smillie, Drew Campbell and John Deighan won gold medals and a pair of Golden Gloves, while Jaden McGarvey and Ethan Storrie took silver.
Deighan fought on the first weekend and scored a points victory to take gold against a very good opponent from Dunfermline Boxing Club.
Campbell fought twice in the competition, winning his semi-final to face Lucas Ewan of Durie’s Boxing Club in the final.
Drew had a point to prove after three defeats against Ewan, but showed determination and skill to win on points.
Smillie had to box a quarter-final and semi-final to reach his final, but beat Andrew McLaughlin from HBA to win a gold medal and a pair of Golden Gloves.
Kerr, from Wishaw, only joined Springhill last August, but in that time he has won three Scottish titles and a Western District title.
