Springhill boxer has a bright future, says coach Frank Delaney

Springhill Boxing Club coach Frank Delaney says young fighter Josh Mullen has a bright future ahead of him, after bagging a convincing win in an international match against Ireland.

And he reckons Mullen, 17, can go the distance in boxing.

Mullen, who is current Western District, Scottish and British youth champion recorded a unanimous points victory over Ireland’s Anthony Taggart while representing Scotland in an international duel match at Ravenscraig.

Delighted Delaney said: “Josh boxed as well as I’ve seen him. He was outstanding from start to finish, dominating every round and giving his opponent a standing eight-count in the final round.

“Josh is getting better and better, and definitely has a bright future ahead of him in his boxing career.

“He is a great role model for the younger members of the club, many of whom were there to support him.

“Josh is greatly enjoying and benefiting from his international experience, and it’s great to see him getting rewarded for all his hard work.

“He can go the distance. He’s only young, but he’s a big unit, and I keep forgetting he’s only 17.

“Sometimes boys can fight well and when it comes to the big occasion they blow it, but Josh doesn’t, and Scotland doesn’t have a lot of big men just now.”
