Spanish police refuse to say whether 'stolen' £12k Rolex found with body of Jay Slater

Spanish police have refused to reveal whether they have recovered a £12,000 Rolex watch Jay Slater allegedly stole before his death.

The Civil Guard in Tenerife confirmed on Tuesday (July 16) that the body found in a ravine near the village of Masca was that of Jay Slater, and said it appeared as though he had died in an accidental fall.

A spokesperson for a court in the area said the post-mortem 'has determined that his death was the result of multiple injuries compatible with a fall in a rocky area', with no further details being made available.

And police also said his injuries had included broken bones in a statement released shortly after court officials also revealed Jay’s identity had been confirmed through fingerprints.

The question of whether police now have a watch the 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer reportedly confessed to stealing from a reveller remains unanswered.

The exact location where police mountain rescue experts found his body around 10am on Monday (July 15) has also not been revealed, but it is thought it was near to the place where his phone last pinged.

Asked about the watch and whether they were going to offer more precise information on where Jay’s body was found, the Civil Guard in Tenerife said: “All the information we’re prepared to release at this stage has been put in the public domain. Any updates should we decide to publish any more information will be made available through the normal channels.”
