Sources: Rotherham United line-up key Paul Warne agreement on one condition

Rotherham United plan to put a new contract in-front of Paul Warne once promotion back into the Sky Bet Championship is confirmed, Football League World understands.

Warne has been in-charge of the Millers since 2016 and has overseen the club bouncing between the Championship and League One.

Last year, Rotherham were unlucky to drop out of the Championship on the final day of the season, but have responded brilliantly and are in the driving seat to win the League One title this term.

Football League World understands that in the event of Warne delivering another promotion, Rotherham will put a new contract to him and look to tie him down beyond the summer of 2023.

Warne’s last contract extension came in September 2020, but the 48-year-old has once again underlined his credentials as one of the EFL’s top managers this season.

Rotherham’s 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday afternoon came via goals from Freddie Ladapo and Michael Smith, with Warne picking up another three points despite an under-par performance.

The win at Hillsborough moved Rotherham nine points clear of Wigan Athletic at the top of League One.

Although Wigan have games in-hand over Rotherham, the Millers’ position is strong heading into their clash with the Latics on Friday night.
