Sofyan Amrabat showed Manchester United what he can and can't do

Sofyan Amrabat only ever had eyes for Manchester United in the summer, and now he won't be able to escape the fact that all eyes are on his every move.

With the ongoing defensive crisis getting even worse for the visit of Crystal Palace yesterday, the Moroccan was once again called upon to fill in at full-back, the only role he has occupied in his three outings for the club.

In all of those matches, there has been a running theme. Amrabat has impressed with his confidence in possession of the ball and demands to have as much of the ball as possible, though he has struggled whenever he has been asked to defend.

From his first involvement at Burnley, when he conceded a late free-kick that gifted the hosts a final chance to try and salvage the match, to those against Palace, he hasn't looked comfortable when out of possession.

It was his poor loss of the ball that led to Casemiro being booked for a foul on Jordan Ayew early on, and his needless foul out wide on the same opponent that gave Palace the free-kick from which they took an early lead.

Palace looked to target his clear vulnerability in the role, and it brought them most of their joy in the game, though it would be hard to be too critical when he showed such willingness to play out of position for the wider benefit of his new side.

The 27-year-old is yet to convince from a defensive point of view, something that has perhaps unfairly been highlighted amid the shortage of other options but will clearly need to be improved upon if he is to earn a permanent stay at the club.
