'So long Rammy': Popular Bury bar announces closure blaming 'faltering market'

A popular Ramsbottom wine merchant and beer cellar has announced its closure, blaming a 'faltering market' in the area.

Grape to Grain, who also own a store in Prestwich, describe themselves as an 'off-licence with a difference', allowing customers to take alcohol away or drink in-store for a small corkage fee. They opened their Ramsbottom site five years ago, but have become the latest business in the town to be forced into closure.

The store's owners posted on their Facebook page blaming the 'usual combination of rising costs and falling sales' for the announcement. They added they had 'no choice' but to close in the 'faltering Rammy market'.

"After 5 years we have finally been forced to pull the plug on our Ramsbottom branch of Grape to Grain," they wrote in a post. "The usual combination of rising costs and dwindling sales in a faltering Rammy market mean we simply cannot keep our doors open.

"After watching incredible passion projects by talented and inspiring people close in Rammy over the last year we hoped to be able to weather the storm but the writing is on the wall.

"This decision is not one we wanted to make but we have no choice and so close we must."

It comes after a number of eateries in the town have been forced to close, including The Chocolate Café, and Spanish restaurant duo Levanter and Baratxuri.

"Over the years we have had an amazing collection of people form the Rammeh team, some awesome regulars and some great times. Thanks to you all for coming to see us and enjoy the cosy vibe," the post continued.

"This weekend is our last weekend, we hope to see you for a glass of something LEKKER…Saturday night
