Snowboarder Tess Coady makes history as first Aussie woman to win slopestyle medal
Tess Coady has claimed Australia’s first medal of the Beijing Winter Olympics, winning bronze in the women’s snowboard slopestyle.
The 21-year-old has put behind her the heartbreak of missing the PyeongChang games four years ago when she ruptured her ACL in practice days before competition.

Coady clinched the bronze medal with a stellar third run scored 84.15 in the final on Sunday.
Zoi Sadowski-Synnott made history by winning New Zealand’s first Winter Olympic gold medal with a third run scored 92.88, while American Julia Marino took silver after scoring 87.68.
It’s the first time Australia has won an Olympic medal in snowboard slopestyle and the fifth in a snowboarding discipline.
Australia now has 16 medals in Winter Olympics history.
Coady went into the final as the eighth qualifier, but eased the nerves with an impressive first run scored 82.68 to sit in silver medal position.
She fell on her second run, but showed composure beyond her years to nail her final effort including a highly-scored frontside double cork, throwing her hands into the air as she completed the successful performance.
“That was wild. It was so insane. I’m dying,” she told Channel 7.
“Making it to a final is always a win in my book.
“But I was talking to a friend last night and he said to me that I had finally earned my ticket to freedom with the last four years.
“So I took that mentality today. I was just going to send it, nothing to lose. I came back and got my redemption yesterday.
