‘Scary’ moment dooms Aussie Tess Coady’s hopes of second Winter Olympics medal

Australia’s Tess Coady has missed out on a second medal at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics as Zoi Sadowski-Synnott took out silver for New Zealand.

Coady landed an impressively clean 1080 double cork, a score of 85.00 keeping her in the top three after the first runs.

The 21-year-old was surpassed by PyeongChang 2018 gold medallist Anna Gasser and Sadowski-Synnott but sat narrowly ahead of Japanese duo Reira Iwabuchi and Kokomo Murase.

Coady’s third run was scored 8.50 and wiped off, with her first (85.00) and second (29.75) runs combined for a total score of 114.75 to finish ninth in the final.

Athletes were ranked on the two best scores from their three runs.

“Even though I didn’t land the second and third runs today - I’ve never tried that trick in competition,” Coady told Channel 7.

“I definitely butchered that last one but I’m so stoked to have tried it. That was such a sick day. It’s always so much fun to be a part of these
