Sky explain why Rangers penalty against Celtic was not given as VAR finally clears up confusion

The reason behind a potential Rangers penalty NOT being awarded has been revealed – after a long wait.

Ian Crocker took the opportunity during a break in play in the action to try to clear up the situation by saying he had since been told that a potential OFFSIDE in the build-up was behind the big talking point not penalising Celtic. But the commentator admitted it would have been nice for Willie Collum on VAR to communicate that in the first place.

The decision left Kris Boyd and Neil Lennon in the studio in no doubt that Alistair Johnston should have bene punished for a handball. But Nick Walsh waved play on after it was communicated from the VAR room to continue with the action.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Crocker said: "Now, going back to Rangers' potential penalty. We have since been told there may well have been an offside in the build-up."

Chris Sutton chipped in: "Maybe Sima's left boot is just offside in that situation and hence that may be the big call but I don't think it has necessarily been explained." Sutton's co-commentator Kenny Miller added: "It has definitely not been communicated."

Crocker went on: "We can hear Willie Collum on VAR in our headphones. It would have been nice if he had told us that in the first place. Left in the dark." Later, Sky showed the VAR image which showed Sima had a foot offside in the lead-up to the incident.
