Sittingbourne manager Ryan Maxwell on new signings Jaden Crowhurst, Ellis Brown and Kai Brown
Sittingbourne boss Ryan Maxwell has added to his selection headache but could hardly be happier with his latest signings.
The arrival of Jaden Crowhurst, Ellis Brown and Kai Brown meant the Brickies had 26 players involved in their opening pre-season game against Phoenix Sports on Saturday.
Maxwell ended up fielding three different sides as Sittingbourne recovered from 2-0 down to win 3-2 on the 3G training pitch at Dartford’s Princes Park ground.
“We’ve got lots of players to run the rule over, maybe a few too many, but that’s great because they’re all good players,” said Maxwell.
“It was good to get a look at the boys in a Sittingbourne shirt for the first time.
“The majority played 30 minutes, because of the amount of players we had, but I don’t need lots of time to look at players.
“Thirty minutes was enough to know where they’re at with me at this stage and they’ll get another opportunity this week.
“It’s all about building a picture and Saturday was very important that we got an inclination of what it looks like.
“We ran the players really hard beforehand, they literally finished on their backs and kick-off was six minutes later, bless them, so they struggled for the first third.
“But it was done for a reason, we’re here to achieve and to do that, you have to go through the hard yards.”
Crowhurst, 21, played National League football at Southend and had loan spells in National League South with Tonbridge and Hampton & Richmond while with the Shrimpers.
He’s arrived at Woodstock from Canvey Island.
“I’m really pleased that he chose to come here,” said Maxwell.
“He could have gone to a couple of Step 3 sides.
“He knows what he’s getting into.
“He did one session and went, ‘Yeah, I’m in, I want to be part of this’.
