Maidstone United manager George Elokobi backs new striker Deon Moore to shine at the Gallagher Stadium
Manager George Elokobi believes new striker Deon Moore will give Maidstone a different dimension this season.
Moore’s goal record in club football became a talking point on social media after his signing was announced.
He’s scored five goals in 83 games, as many as he’s managed in 12 international caps for Guyana.
Strikers may be judged on goals but that’s not always fair and, in Moore’s case, Elokobi is looking at the bigger picture.
“Deon is one we’ve looked at, we know where he’s been,” he said of a player whose CV includes Peterborough and Bristol Rovers, while he finished last season at Welling.
“It’s important we have different options in terms of the dynamism within our forward line.
“He’s one I believe is going to be successful with us here because of the structure we’ve got.
“However, just like every player we’ve brought in this season, we don’t know if they’re going to work or not because we have to make sure we get to work.
“There’s still plenty of work to be done but he’s come in, he’s shown himself and he’s getting stronger, he’s getting fitter and he’s understanding how we play, in possession and out of possession.
“He’s someone that gives us a platform to be able to impact the game for other forward players to play off him.
“That’s what he’s shown.
“Everyone is talking about goals in football but, let’s be honest, last season the ball couldn’t stick when it went up there.
“We didn’t have a platform at times to play from and we became very, very predictable, as we saw in the play-off final.
“But this season, I want to try and do it differently.
“I want to have those attacking options.
