Sittingbourne manager Ryan Maxwell says new signing Troy Chiabi has a sixth sense for sniffing out opportunities others wouldn’t see
Sittingbourne manager Ryan Maxwell sees huge potential in new signing Troy Chiabi.
Maxwell says Chiabi has a sixth sense for sniffing out opportunities after confirming a deal for the striker.
The 22-year-old came through the academy at AFC Wimbledon, where he spent six years, before signing for National League North club Blyth Spartans in 2023.
He’s also played for Corinthian-Casuals, Waltham Abbey and Beaconsfield Town, and has joined the Brickies after being recommended to Maxwell.
“Troy had been away for a little bit over in Dubai, and wasn’t really playing, and just by chance he was put to me,” said Maxwell.
“I had a look at some of the footage and really liked what I saw.
“I invited him in and his attitude has been brilliant.
“He’s a quiet lad but when he goes on the pitch he comes alive.
“He’s a real finisher, he’s got class, two feet, his movement’s brilliant, he sees the picture around him and, looking at some of the goals he’s scored, they’re absolutely quality.
“He’s also got that sixth sense to sniff out an opportunity that others wouldn’t see.
“He’s done extremely well in pre-season and I’m extremely pleased with everything I’ve seen so far.
“I think he’s got the class and quality to play higher, of that there is absolutely no doubt, and I’m hoping to help him do that because he’s a really good lad as well.
“I like his character, so I’m happy to help him.
“As long as he keeps his head down, I think he can do it.
“He’ll be a bit of an unknown but he’s got quality and class that’s shown quite evidently early doors and has impressed everybody.
“It might be a process with him, until he adjusts totally to what it is we need from him in this team, but he’s got lots of quality.”
