Sittingbourne manager Reece Prestedge pleased to see summer signing Kieron Agbebi get off the mark in his first pre-season friendly

Two of Sittingbourne’s summer signings combined to good effect in a move that bodes well for the new Isthmian South East season.

Kieron Agbebi latched on to a pass from Jordy Mongoy to score the Brickies’ goal in their 1-1 pre-season friendly draw with AFC Greenwich Borough at Woodstock last Saturday.

The link-up play between Agbebi, a former Gillingham youngster who’s joined from Dover Athletic, and ex-Cray Wanderers man Mongoy is something Sittingbourne have been working on.

Manager Reece Prestedge was pleased to see it come off in the opening warm-up match, with Mongoy picking up possession just inside his own half and driving forward before playing in Agbebi, who finished coolly.

“Kieron’s a new signing, and a new striker, so it’s good for him to get his first goal,” said Prestedge.

“Jordy played a massive part in that, and he’s another new signing.

“He got it on the half-turn, drove, and slipped him in, which is sort of what we’ve been working on.

“Not that he hasn’t had it, but I feel Kieron needs a club and a team that are going to give him the whole season to show what he can do.

“He’s got Harvey Smith up there as well, who’s probably more experienced, but at least he’ll be fighting for the shirt.”

Sittingbourne fielded a number of trialists in the Greenwich game and Prestedge was due to have another look in Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw against Snodland.

Those who aren’t what he’s looking for are likely to be let go before the Brickies get any deeper into pre-season.

“We’ve given them a good four or five weeks of being involved and having a look and after the two games we’ll know where we’re at,” said Prestedge.

“I think it’s a bit poor if you’re stringing people along the whole time.
