Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Manchester United 'transfer plan' following takeover and more rumours

Manchester United will be 'likely' to sign at least a couple of 'high price, big name signings' should Sir Jim Ratcliffe's takeover prove successful, according to reports.

It was claimed earlier this week that United's protracted takeover process could be coming to an end soon as Sir Jim is reportedly set to be 'named preferred bidder'. Any new owners could help Erik ten Hag continue his overhaul of United's playing squad - with reports now claiming the British billionaire could bankroll some big signings over the summer.

According to The Independent, Sir Jim would 'provide a significant injection of funds to a club already something of a market heavyweight'. It is claimed that this could lead to at least two big-name signings arriving at Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, The Mirror reports that United are 'preparing to move for Jordan Pickford' should David de Gea leave the club when his contract expires this summer.

The club are locked in negotiations with the Spanish shot-stopper over a new deal, although want him to agree to a pay cut. While the club are confident of agreeing new terms with De Gea, it appears they are eying up alternatives should he decide to leave.

The report adds it is 'inconceivable' that Pickford will remain at Everton should they fail to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season as the goalkeeper will want to keep his place as England's first-choice goalkeeper ahead of Euro 2024 next summer.

But, even if the Goodison Park outfit do avoid the drop down into the Championship, it is claimed that he could be tempted by the higher wages on offer at Old Trafford.
