Sir Alex Ferguson breaks world record for second time to buy unbeaten racehorse

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has paid a record-breaking fee for a racehorse for the second time this year.

During his illustrious tenure at Old Trafford, the legendary boss broke the British transfer record five times. From Roy Keane to Rio Ferdinand, Ferguson was never shy about spending big to secure United's next star. Now, at 82 years old, he is applying the same strategy to horse racing.

In February, he was part of a group that smashed the record for the highest amount paid for a jumper at auction, shelling out £630k for Grade 1 winner Caldwell Potter. Only five months later, Ferguson has managed to push the envelope even further.

It's been revealed that Ferguson was one of five investors who forked out £660k for Regent's Stroll on Monday. The horse, unbeaten in two bumper races, is trained by Paul Nicholls, who disclosed that Ferguson was among those who put up the cash to ensure Regent's Stroll stayed at his Ditcheat stables.

Nicholls had been facing the possibility of losing some big names from his stable, including previous Cheltenham festival winner Stay Away Fay, after previous owner Chris Giles decided to step back from the sport. Regent's Stroll was another horse that could have found a new home at auction – but thanks to Ferguson's investment, Nicholls has been able to retain the promising jumper.

"We got all the ones we wanted back, so we're delighted," Nicholls said. "I've had some fantastic support from all my owners to get them back. I put people together to buy them and some of the co-owners bought them
