Simon Jordan makes Wayne Rooney/Derby County admission

The former Crystal Palace owner and current chairman spoke recently on Talksport, claiming Rooney didn’t deserve to be linked to the vacant Everton managerial post. 

However, Jordan has now changed his tune in regards to Rooney’s ability as a manager. Again, speaking on Talksport, he admitted that the 36-year old is doing an incredible job with Derby County. 

“You now look at it and say wow, 37 points they would have had, they’d have been 12th in the league, but with no direction and advice around them, and no budget,” said Jordan, via the Derby Telegraph. 

“I have to say well done, for the adversity his team is under and I generally hope that Derby get out of this mess, they are now together in a unit with high spirits, and I hope they stay up.

“You have to give credit to Rooney, I think he has done well.

“You have to give credit where it is due. He is coming of age and growing in confidence, and maybe he will just prove me wrong and show that he can eventually become a decent manager.”

Jordan references 37 points, this is what Derby would have on the table but for the 21-point deduction penalty that the club received for going into administration at the start of the season. 

Despite that deduction, Derby are 23rd in the table and now only seven points adrift of safety with 18 games still left to play. 

Up next for Rooney’s side is a trip to the John Smith Stadium to face Huddersfield Town this evening. 

Rooney turned down the offer to be interviewed as Everton manager, which was probably the correct call for him to make.
