Simon Jordan questions 'strange' West Brom transfer amid Championship struggles

Simon Jordan has given his perspective on West Bromwich Albion following the hiring of Steve Bruce as manager to replace predecessor Valerien Ismael.

The Frenchman was sacked almost two weeks ago after a run of just one win in seven games with the Baggies gradually slipping further and further away from the automatic promotion places in the Championship table.

Ex- Aston Villa and Newcastle boss Bruce has been brought in to get their promotion hopes back on track, but has so far overseen a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United and a draw with Blackburn Rovers in his first two games in charge, and no goals scored.

Former Crystal Palace owner and chairman Jordan says it's "too early" to judge Bruce's Albion, but believes they should definitely be in the top two.

“Very rarely you get to go into a side and turn the lights on, most of the time there’s an element of the dimmer switch where it takes a while to get to where you want them to be," he told talkSPORT.

“West Brom have been poor for a period of time. West Brom are an aspiring Premier League side, and they should really be in the automatic promotion spots, full stop.

Jordan has also been left puzzled by the signing of striker Andy Carroll on a free transfer, who arrived in January as cover for injured newcomer Daryl Dike.

“They’re a strange team, West Brom, because why would you go and sign Andy Carroll? I don’t know what to make of that.”
