'Significant' - Devlin buzzing over big Celtic development

Celtic journalist Kieran Devlin believes Jota is exactly the kind of signing the Bhoys should be looking to complete as his permanent switch to Celtic Park nears closer.

Jota spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan at the Glasgow outfit from Benfica as they won the Scottish Premiership. When that initial temporary deal was completed, Celtic had a £6.5m purchase option in the contract, and it has now been reported that a deal with the Portuguese club is within touching distance.

Writing on Twitter, Devlin expressed his delight at the news. He said: “Looks close now and might not have the novelty of a brand new transfer, but if Celtic’s policy this summer is to sign players who are, or can become, Champions League quality, then Jota is a good candidate. In that sense, he would be a significant signing.”

TIF Thoughts on Jota…

£4.95m-valued Jota has proven to be an astute signing for Celtic. He made 40 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 13 goals and providing 14 assists, and was a key player throughout the campaign for Ange Postecoglou as Celtic secured qualification for the group stages of the Champions League.

Europe’s premier club competition will provide a strong test for the Scottish side, and to compete with some of the continent’s best sides, they will need to bring in some top-quality players this summer. While Jota was already with the club last term, keeping him permanently will be a big boost to their hopes judging by his impact this term.
