Sick pervert lured teenage boys back to his home with promise of cigarettes and CDs before abusing them

A man who encouraged teenage schoolboys to perform sex acts in exchange for cigarettes, beer and CDs has been jailed.

Mark Edward North, 56, of Rodney Street, Manchester, has been jailed for seven years for historic sex abuse against two teenage boys.

North was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court today (February 4) after being found guilty of nine counts of indecent assault on a male under the age of 16.

The court was told how the charges related to a number of incidents that took place between 1996 and 1998.

One victim, a schoolboy aged 14, met North - who was in his 30s at the time - while playing truant from school in Manchester city centre.

North invited the boy back to his city centre flat where he encouraged the boy to perform sex acts in return for cigarettes and CDs.

This continued on multiple occasions over the duration of 12 months.

A second victim, who was aged 14 or 15 at the time when meeting North, was also approached while playing truant.

The victim was also invited to North’s flat, where he would perform sex acts on the boy in exchange for cigarettes.

The court heard how the victim submitted to the abuse over a two year period because he said he felt guilty that North had given him cigarettes and beer.

The case was first reported to police in March 2019, where North was later invited in for questioning and denied any wrongdoing.

At a 17-day trial, which began on October 25 last year, North was found not guilty to two counts of raping a male under 16 and two counts of indecent assault.

He was however today jailed for seven years after being found guilty of nine counts of indecent assault on an male under 16.
