Sick man sexually attacked woman on train in 'hideous' assault

A 'disgusting' pervert sexually assaulted a lone woman on a train and exposed himself to her.

James Walker got on a train from Wigan to Liverpool and sat next to the victim, Liverpool Crown Court was told. He then carried out a 'sustained sexual assault' on her, British Transport Police said.

She repeatedly asked him to stop and 'tried to fight him off' but he continued. Walker, 35, then 'exposed himself at her and forcibly made sexual advances'.

The brave victim was then approached by another female passenger, who was also travelling alone, who stepped in to help. She told Walker to leave her alone and took her to another seat.

But Walker persisted and approached both women again, a spokesperson for BTP added. The female blocked him from getting any closer to the victim before he eventually moved away and got off the train at Edge Hill.

Police described the attack - which happened on August 14, 2021 - as 'hideous' and 'disgusting' as Walker was jailed for a year and a half. Investigating officer DS Stephen Kite said: "This was a hideous sexual assault which left the victim understandably traumatised.

"Over two years later she continues to struggle with what happened that evening. Despite her protestations Walker continued with his vile attack until a brave bystander found the courage to speak up and help the victim.
