Sheppey United boss Kevin Watson reacts to 2-1 Isthmian South East derby home defeat against 10-man Faversham Town

Sheppey boss Kevin Watson felt their weekend home derby defeat to Faversham showed why they are where they are in the league.

Watson’s mid-table Ites lost 2-1 to the third-placed Isthmian South East Lilywhites despite playing against 10 men for more than an hour.

Trailing to a goal from attacker Tashi-Jay Kwayie, they finally made their numerical advantage count following midfielder Harrison Pont’s first-half dismissal when defender Lex Allan scored from Archie Johnson’s free-kick late on, only for midfielder Tommie Fagg to get a stoppage-time winner.

Watson reflected: “It was full of moments, wasn’t it?

“I thought we started the game really poorly and they were on the front foot. They were causing lots of problems, with their two advanced midfielders (Kwayie and Fagg) picking up the ball quite a lot.

“We weren’t running with them and we were sort of weathering a storm from the off for the first 20 minutes or so.

“Then, obviously, there was the incident with the red card, which somewhat changes the game for both teams. That probably gave us a little bit of belief.

“They kept their shape really well and made it really difficult for us. We did have some chances, a few penalty shouts and bits and bobs like that.

“When we got the equaliser, there’s seven minutes (of stoppage time) left and probably - if you get the ball back, without them scoring from centre - you have got a chance of winning the game!

“They played really well with 10 men for about 70 minutes. Against 10 men, it has come out 1-1, hasn’t it?

“It’s frustrating but that’s why they are where they are, and we are where we are, because we don’t manage games well enough at times.”
