Gillingham play Colchester United on Monday night in League Two match at Priestfield
Gillingham face Colchester United for the second time in three weeks and will be better equipped this time around.
The Gills drew 0-0 with the U’s when they met in Essex earlier this month, on a day when they had 10 senior players unavailable, with manager Gareth Ainsworth naming youngsters Logan Dobbs and Louie Dayal among his subs.
Ainsworth’s men head into their Monday night home clash with Colchester with many more options available. The manager was forced to leave a handful of senior players out of his squad for the Boxing Day game against Cambridge United.
Defender Conor Masterson, midfielder Euan Williams and strikers Josh Andrews, Sam Vokes and Marcus Wyllie are all back available, and there’s every chance Ainsworth will mix it up after a 1-1 draw with Cambridge on Boxing Day.
Ainsworth said: “I was looking at the bench a few weeks ago thinking, ‘Wow, slim pickings’ and now it's Jonny Williams, Sam Vokes and Jonny Smith not getting on the pitch.
“It's a squad game, big time. Shadrach Ogie and Travis Akomeah missed out on the squad (on Boxing Day), and those two players have really performed well for us.
“Euan Williams is back, Marcus Wyllie is back. We've got depth now, whereas I was dipping into the youth team for subs before, we've definitely got depth back.”
The Gills have become the division’s draw specialists with six of their last seven games finishing level.
Gillingham aren’t losing many, but dropped points have seen them slip to 12th, now seven points off the play-off places.
Ainsworth said: “I want another full-blooded performance, like I saw second half (against Cambridge), because that will beat most teams in this league.
“It’s super now to call on the players I’ve got on the bench.
