Sheffield Wednesday working on deal to sign Hull City attacker Mallik Wilks
Sheffield Wednesday remain hopeful of signing Hull City forward Mallik Wilks. Yorkshire Live understands the Owls are still in dialogue with the Championship club over Wilks as Darren Moore looks to further strengthen his forward line before the new season gets under way.
A deal was said to be edging closer to completion after Wilks was reportedly spotted in Sheffield last month. Wilks is said to be keen on a summer switch to Hillsborough and is believed to have discussed personal terms with Moore's side. A two-year deal was thought to be on the table and a transfer fee of £200,000 mooted.
But Hull City vice-chairman Tan Kesler said the Owls' offer was "not enough to consider" and that Wednesday would have to go back in with an improved bid if they are to prise Wilks away from Humberside.
Speaking on BBC Radio Humberside, Kesler said: “They have a genuine interest but Mallik is someone who has had his good days with us. He’s out there training properly and competing, he always has a jersey here. With all due respect Sheffield Wednesday the offer is not enough for us to consider.
“I think the offer for Mallik should be higher because if he’s seeing himself, and they’re seeing him in that price level, I think he better stay here. The negotiations are open, you cannot close the doors to anyone or any player.
“You need to understand where your players stand in the market anyway if you don’t do the deals or conclude the deals. But you need to understand who your players are, it’s the only way you can get the real value of the players based on their performances.
