Sheffield Wednesday make decision over potential signing

Sheffield Wednesday have been keeping a close eye on Owen Humphries over the last few weeks, with a view to the youngster potentially earning a deal with the Owls.

However, The Star has reported that rather than keeping the player on at Hillsborough, it looks like the team have seen enough and won’t be offering more permanent terms with them.

The 19-year-old has been playing for them on a trial basis, after looking like he might have the potential to develop into a solid option for the club. They were keen to have a closer inspection of him and have allowed him to work with them for the last month or so.

They aren’t alone in potentially trying to land his signature either but for now, it looks like he won’t be heading on a deal to the EFL or the Premier League. It looked like the Owls were the frontrunners but they have now allowed him to leave Hillsborough and return to his actual club of Larkhall Athletic.

While it is certainly possible that another team could now swoop in and secure a deal for him, for now it looks as though his time in the EFL is over. With interest elsewhere, there is every chance there could be more trials for him in the future and a deal at another club but it doesn’t look like he will be snapped up by Wednesday.

Instead, Darren Moore has had a look and decided against a deal – and they will now move on from the player.

The Verdict

Owen Humphries wouldn’t have been much of a gamble for Sheffield Wednesday – especially considering he would likely cost very little, could agree a short contract and small wages – but Darren Moore has seemingly opted against it.
