Darren Moore's Sheffield Wednesday won't let Doncaster Rovers reception affect Owls' masterplan

All eyes will be on Darren Moore at the Eco-Power Stadium tomorrow.

The Sheffield Wednesday manager is preparing to make his first return to Doncaster Rovers since leaving the club last March.

Moore, a fans' favourite with the club during his playing days at the old Belle Vue, unceremoniously jumped ship in the middle of the promotion race to take over at Hillsborough. His departure incensed Rovers hierarchy and supporters.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference yesterday, Rovers boss Gary McSheffrey admitted he expects Moore to receive a "mixed" reception from the home fans this weekend.

“It’ll probably be a mixed one,” McSheffrey told BBC Radio Sheffield. “I thought his Doncaster side he had here, box to box, were comfortably one of the best teams in the league, they played good football and were up there for a couple of seasons at the top end of the table.

"I think they (supporters) will be respectful to him. Obviously, he went to Sheffield Wednesday, which is just down the road. But it is a club which paid money for him.

"I don't want to get too much into it. But ultimately, he is a nice guy that deserves a bit of respect."

Moore, who also guided Rovers to ninth place when the 2019/20 season was cut short due to coronavirus, receive some "heat" from the Rovers faithful when the two sides last met at Hillsborough back in August. Second half goals from Barry Bannan and Dennis Adeniran secured the Owls' first league win of the season.

Reflecting on his time at Rovers, Moore said: "My job that was done at my previous club, I really enjoyed it. I am thankful to David Blunt and Gavin Baldwin for giving me the opportunity at Doncaster Rovers football club.
