Sheffield Wednesday dominate EFL and League One Teams of the Week

Sheffield Wednesday were at their brilliant best on Saturday as they got back to winning ways in emphatic style in the 6-0 win against Cambridge United. Darren Moore’s side moved within a point of the play-offs following the demolition at Hillsborough.

Saido Berahino was very much the star of the show with a very well-taken hat-trick while Barry Bannan and George Byers were the other two Owls goalscorers after an own goal had opened the scoring. The performance from the hosts was so complete that a trio of Wednesday representatives were included in the WhoScored.com EFL Team of the Week.

No team had more of their players included in the team with Coventry the only other side to have more than one of their players in the team on the back of their 4-1 win over Sheffield United.

Berahino led the frontline in the team with a perfect 10 rating from WhoScored. He was supported in the team by his captain Barry Bannan, whose goal from all of 25 yards was the pick of the bunch, and Marvin Johnson who was brilliant down the left-hand side.

Moore might have felt slightly aggrieved to not be considered the manager of the Team of the Week in the EFL but that accolade for this particular weekend was given to Mark Hughes. The Wednesday boss was, however, manager of WhoScored’s League One Team of the Week.

There was also a place in that team for another Owls player as George Byers was included in the midfield alongside Bannan and Cheltenham Town’s Leicester City loanee Callum Wright.

Wednesday supporters will be desperate to see the involvement of their players in the Team of the Week continue as they look to strengthen their push for promotion back to the Championship.
