Ex-West Ham and Reading midfielder offers frank assessment on Sheffield Wednesday's play-off bid

Sheffield Wednesday must improve their away form if they are to finish in the League One play-offs, according to EFL pundit Jobi McAnuff. Darren Moore's troops moved up to sixth in League One after Saturday's 4-1 victory over Cheltenham Town.

No team in the top four tiers of English football have picked up points (44) than the Owls at home this season. But four of their seven remaining fixtures are away from Hillsborough.

Wednesday have struggled for consistency on the road, losing four of their last seven matches on their travels. Former West Ham United and Reading midfielder McAnuff has praised the job Moore has done to turn the Owls into serious promotion contenders but believes they cannot just rely on their home form in the scrap to go up.

Speaking on the latest edition of the Sky Sports EFL Podcast, McAnuff said: "Huge credit to Darren Moore because it has been tricky at times. They are one of those huge, huge football clubs. They find themselves in League One and there is a lot of pressure and expectation that comes with that.

"I think what you are seeing is those real quality players - I am thinking particularly in the midfield area the other day in George Byers, [Massimo] Luongo and, of course, Barry Bannan - pulling strings left, right and centre. We saw it in abundance the other day and we have done throughout the whole season.

"You have then got the opportunity to bring Harlee Dean back into the defensive part of the pitch, which was a massive boost for them.
