Midfielder sets out future hopes after signing new Nottingham Forest deal

Ryan Yates is confident his best is yet to come, after putting pen to paper on a new Nottingham Forest contract.

The midfielder has signed fresh terms which will keep him at the City Ground until 2025, with his previous deal having been due to run out in little more than a year’s time.

Yates has been in superb form for Steve Cooper’s side of late, taking his goal tally to seven for the season so far when he struck from range against Reading on Saturday.

That was the third successive game in which he has found the back of the net, having also scored against Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup and away to Sheffield United.

But the 24-year-old is eager to continue on an upward curve - both on a personal and collective level as the Reds target a push for the top-six in the final weeks of the campaign.

“I’m delighted. I’ve been here for so many years, I love the club and I’m delighted to extend my stay,” Nigel Doughty Academy graduate Yates told the club website. "It means everything to play for Forest.

“I’ve seen so much happen in the time I’ve been at the club, and I feel like this is the best position the club has been in for a long, long time.

“The connection between the fans and the players on the pitch is the best it’s ever been, so we need to jump on that chance and continue as we are.

“We’ve come so far, we can’t stop now. We just need to keep striving, keep focusing on each game and keep focusing on our performances.

“The manager has helped to get the best out of me by playing to my strengths - playing that high-intense game, especially at home, getting on the front foot and being better than my opponent.

“I’ve still got a long, long way to go. I’ve made some big strides but hopefully it’s just the start.
