Sheffield Wednesday dealt fresh injury blow as star man faces spell on the sidelines
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing has joined the Owls' growing injury list.
It is thought the influential forward suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Rotherham United and would not have been included in the postponed Accrington Stanley fixture.
One source has told Yorkshire Live that Mendez-Laing could be out of action as long as a month.
It is a further blow to the Owls' hopes of securing a top-six finish. Darren Moore's side are eighth in the table, one point outside the play-offs.
Mendez-Laing has produced a string of impressive performances since joining the Owls on a free transfer. The former Cardiff City and Middlesbrough man has scored two goals and claimed two assists in his seven starts and three substitute appearances.
In recent weeks, Mendez-Laing has deputised up front.
His injury setback further weakens the Owls' attacking options, with Lee Gregory, Josh Windass and Tyreece John-Jules among 10 first-team players currently sidelined by injury.
There is an outside chance eight-goal top-scorer Gregory could be involved when Wednesday take on Moore's former club Doncaster Rovers this Saturday. He is on the mend following a foot injury.
The Owls were due to face Stanley this evening but the fixture was called off following a lengthy pitch inspection. Referee Ross Joyce deemed the Hillsborough playing surface unplayable.
The clash was originally due to be played in mid-December but was postponed due to Covid-19 infections in the Owls camp.
No new date has yet been set but the teams are likely to try again in the week beginning March 7.
