Fabrizio Romano tells Man United fans to 'keep an eye on' £72m-rated star in exciting claim

Manchester United could make a move for Lautaro Martinez in the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano. 

The Italian football journalist was speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel to discuss what the near future may hold for the Red Devils.

United currently occupy fourth spot in the Premier League table as the race for the Champions League heats up towards the run-in of the 2021/22 campaign.

However, looking ahead to next season, the Red Devils are expected to have a new manager in the dugout, and Romano believes he will target a new striker.

Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo are currently the two options used up front, but with the Uruguayan expected to leave in the summer, Romano had the following to say:

“Yes, they have many options. They will decide together with the new manager. This is an important point. This is for the midfielder, this is for the striker – they have to decide together with a new manager because it depends what kind of striker you want to get.

“For example, we always had rumours around [Erling] Haaland, but it’s more than difficult, so I don’t see Erling Haaland as [a] realistic option at the moment for Man United. I will keep an eye on other names, for example, I saw the name around of Lautaro Martinez – he could be one of the names on the list for the summer.”

It was only a matter of months ago that the £72m-rated Martinez was heavily linked with a potential move to the Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur said to be interested.

And the Argentine has continued his impressive form into this season, with 11 goals in Serie A already to his name as Inter look to retain their title.
