Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore addresses transfer links to Hull City player Mallik Wilks

Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore has refused to be drawn on speculation linking the club with a move for Mallik Wilks. It is no secret the Owls would like to bring in the Hull City forward ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Wednesday have already had one bid in the region of £200,000 rebuffed for Wilks this summer. The Tigers are still playing hard ball over the transfer fee and Yorkshire Live understands the Owls are considering switching their attentions to other transfer targets.

Speaking from the club’s pre-season training camp in Portugal, Moore said: “He [Wilks] is not our player to discuss. That’s the big respectful thing for me.

“I can’t stop the talking that’s out there, that’s part of football. But for me to speak about a player that doesn’t belong to me would be so disrespectful.

“For me, I will stay tight-lipped on that one because I won’t speak on that player or any other player.

“If there were players on a free out there and they were unattached then I could speak more eloquently about that player, but anybody under contract it ould be wrong for me to discuss that player.

“It’s the same about clubs openly speaking about our players. It’s not the right thing to do.”

Moore has been busy revamping his first team squad ahead of the new season, signing seven new players. New recruits David Stockdale, Ben Heneghan, Michael Ihiekwe, Akin Famewo, Reece James, Will Vaulks and Michael Smith have all taken part in their six-day training camp in the Algarve.
