James Collins has revealed he was informed last year he would not be a part of Cardiff City's long-term plans under Steve Morison.

Collins signed a two-year deal at Derby County on Wednesday in a deal understood to be a free transfer, having been informed he was surplus to requirements at Cardiff City Stadium, and he says he can't wait to start a new chapter in his career.

"I’m really excited and I’m desperate to get back playing football again and scoring goals," he said.

"I’m really excited to be here. The training ground is great and I’ve played at the stadium loads of times so I know how much of a good atmosphere it is and I’m looking forward to the challenge."
