Sheffield Wednesday boosted by Rotherham absentees despite captain Richard Wood's return

Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to make it five consecutive wins in Sunday’s Yorkshire derby against Rotherham.

It will one of the toughest tests of the season for the Owls as the League One leaders travel the short distance to Hillsborough.

Both teams have picked up 15 points from their last six games which should make for a great spectacle between the two South Yorkshire outfits.

Rotherham will be hoping to inflict the second home defeat of the season on Wednesday as they look to maintain their strong lead at the top of the table.

Darren Moore’s side are likely to be able to move into the play-off places with a victory and will be boosted by a couple of injury problems in the visitors’ squad.

Will Grigg had to be withdrawn just 10 minutes into the Millers’ 1-0 win away at Wimbledon on Tuesday evening and his manager, Paul Warne, admitted that “the early signs aren’t great”.

They will also be without Mikel Miller for the clash after he was injured in their other victory from the last week, at home to Accrington at the weekend.

Rotherham will, however, be thankful for the return of their captain, and former Wednesday defender, Richard Wood who has served his one-match ban after being sent off in the same game.

Warne’s side have not conceded in 450 minutes of league football since they were beaten at Fleetwood almost a month ago so the Owls will have to be at their attacking best on Sunday.

The away team are likely to also have their work cut out in the final third at Hillsborough considering no team has conceded fewer goals at home than Wednesday this season.

However, form often goes out of the window in derby matches and much of Sunday’s match will come down to how well both teams are able to control their emotions.
