Sheffield United boss says Ryan Oné has "good football brain" as former Hamilton Accies teen impresses

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom has been impressed by Coatbridge teenager Ryan Oné since his move to the English Premier League side last month - and says the player has a "good football brain."

Seventeen-year-old Oné joined the Blades from Hamilton Accies on transfer deadline day in September for a six-figure fee.

And he has made a quick impact by scoring on his debut for both the club's under-18 and under-21 sides.

That hasn't gone unnoticed and his power and pace have caught the eye of first team gaffer Heckingbottom, who was formerly in charge of Scottish Premiership side Hibs.

While Heckingbottom is pleased with Oné's start to life with the Bramall Lane club's development teams - where the likes of England stars Kyle Walker and Harry Maguire broke through - he says the Scotland youth international still has ways to go to fulfil his potential and break into the top team.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live, Heckingbottom said: "Yeah, we like what we have seen.

"He has a good football brain and has shown moments where he handles the ball well.

"Physically, we can see what he can potentially be but he’s nowhere near where that is yet.

“He has come in and found the level and the intensity a big step but I have seen in the games that I have already watched him in, that he is quickly coming to terms with that.

"We are pleased with what we have got.”

Oné - the son of former Livingston and Stranraer striker Armand - has caused a bit of a buzz among Blades fans, with many seeing him as a future first team star.

He netted to earn a 2-1 win away at Cardiff for the under-18s and then climbed off the bench to score within 16 minutes of coming on in a 6-0 hammering of Fleetwodd Town.
