Shay Logan shows Scott Brown the middle finger as Celtic racism row reignited by former Aberdeen star

Shay Logan’s beef with Scott Brown clearly hasn't been squashed after an image of the former Aberdeen full back throwing him the double middle digits appeared on social media.

Logan was subjected to racial abuse from Celtic’s Alexander Tonev back in 2014 after the Dons faced Celtic at Parkhead. The on loan Bulgarian winger was handed as seven-match ban, which he unsuccessfully tried to appeal. A report of the original panel hearing stated that Tonev had said: “Don’t touch me you black c***” to Logan, after the defender had fouled him by putting an arm across him.

Tonev denied making the slur, but Logan’s reporting of the incident to then Aberdeen captain Mark Reynolds, ref Bobby Madden and manager Derek McInnes made him an “impressive” witness, according to the tribunal. Before the outcome, Brown had confirmed that he and his Celtic teammates believed Tonev, saying: “whole dressing room believe[d]” Tonev and “know he doesn’t come in and lie”.

Brown was reluctant to change his stance as he came to the end of his time at Parkhead. He agreed to join Aberdeen ahead of the 2021 season, which caused some anger amongst the Pittodrie support, and Brown claimed there was a :mutual respect between himself and Logan.

He said: “At that time, I stuck up for my team-mate because he [Tonev] swore to me that I didn’t do it, so you’ve got to take his stance on that. To this day, I still don’t know whether he said it or not. It was one person’s word against the other.

"But I’ve got huge respect for Shay. He’s been a fantastic player for Aberdeen over the years, he’s worked extremely hard. We’ve had a lot of battles over the course of our careers, and it’s been enjoyable to be fair. I’m sure he’d say the exact same.”

But that respect
