Sharks break Lions hearts to win Currie Cup final after last-gasp Hendrikse penalty
A long-range penalty at the death by fullback Jordan Hendrikse saw the Sharks beat the Lions 16-14 in Saturday's Currie Cup final at Ellis Park.
The Lions thought they had won the game when replacement flanker Sibabalo Qoma scored a late try.
The hosts were leading 14-13 after the hooter and had a lineout inside Sharks territory. They won the lineout but then lost possession from which the Sharks won a penalty.
It was almost 60m out, but Hendrikse stepped up to slot the penalty under immense pressure.
It was a stunning end to a game that started like a damp squib. The scores were level 0-0 at half-time in wet conditions.
But the second half proved more entertaining and the finale proved nothing short of thrilling.
