Sergio Reguilon reveals secret to good start at Manchester United

Manchester United loanee Sergio Reguilon believes his mentality has helped him make a positive start to life at Old Trafford so far.

Reguilon joined the Reds on loan from Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day after injuries in the defensive line began to stack up. Both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are long-term absentees while on the other flank, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also out for an indefinite period.

Some concerns were initially raised due to the Spaniard's lack of minutes since moving to North London from Real Madrid in 2020. However, when called upon, Reguilon has performed admirably for Erik ten Hag and looks to be an astute signing from the club.

Sitting down for a fan Q&A on MUTV, the 26-year-old was asked what he attributed his good start for the Reds to. Reguilon responded: "I was ready, I was ready to be honest because I always say you have to work hard and keep your mind strong because in every moment in football is your opportunity.

"And, if you are not training well and ready in your mind, that opportunity can go out [the window]. For me, I am always focusing on football and when they give me the opportunity to play - I am ready.

"I think in the first game [vs Brighton and Hove Albion] I was with energy and I played with my head."

Having moved to Manchester for the first time this summer, Reguilon was asked what he was enjoying most at United and the full-back reserved special praise for his teammates. "I think you can defend this club," he explained.

"For me, I look to my left and you see a world-class teammate and for me, I am so proud to be here."
