Sergio Aguero defends Man City form and downplays importance of Liverpool FC clash

Sergio Aguero says Manchester City's title chances do not hinge on their showdown with Liverpool, but on the crucial final games after it.

City will return from the international break a point ahead of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League, with Jurgen Klopp's Reds visiting the Etihad on April 10. With both sides capable of winning multiple games in a row, the showdown is being seen as an effective decider for the title.

He told Stake : "Every time that Manchester City and Liverpool have played against each other in the last few seasons, there have had a huge amount of importance and are crucial for the title race. "The match at City will be key in the title race, but it’s important to remember that there are still more games ahead and anything can happen. A result for either team will be really favourable, but don't ensure it’s a decider – anything can happen in the Premier League.

"A team that is seemingly weaker can turn the tables on the biggest clubs at any time, that's the nature of the Premier League and why it's such an appealing competition all over the world. The title is only settled on the last few games of a season."

Aguero also disputed the idea that City's form has dropped recently, with defeat to Tottenham and draws with Southampton and Crystal Palace allowing Liverpool to move back to within a point.
