Seoirse Bulfin confirmed as new Westmeath hurling manager

Seoirse Bulfin, who surprisingly stepped down as Meath hurling manager earlier this year, has been confirmed as the new man in charge of the Westmeath hurlers.

The Limerick native, who has previously worked with Davy Fitzgerald in Waterford, Clare and Wexford, was ratified at a remote meeting of the county committee on Tuesday night.

Despite reservations from some clubs, Bulfin was chosen after a 23-7 vote in his favour.

It comes just four months after Bulfin stepped down as Meath manager ahead of their McDonagh Cup campaign.

Bulfin enjoyed a stellar first season in charge of the Royals, leading them a league title and the Christy Ring Cup in 2023.

The loss of 17 players from that victorious squad this year for various reasons was a significant setback, with Meath winning one of their five 2A games this year shortly before Bulfin stepped away, citing "personal reasons and family commitments".
