Queally to be confirmed as new Waterford hurling boss

Peter Queally is set to be appointed as Waterford senior hurling manager.

Queally will be joined by Dan Shanahan and Eoin Kelly (Mullinahone) in the backroom team.

Ballygunner's Shane O’Sullivan will assume the role of Performance Coach, while John Matthews will look after the team’s strength and conditioning.

Waterford GAA is set to ratify the appointment of Queally on a two-year term at the next county board meeting.

Queally, a hugely respected player for his county and a Munster SHC winner, was a selector for the past two years under Davy Fitzgerald in 2013.

In recent years he has coached Passage, Roanmore and Sarsfields from Cork.

He enjoyed success in those positions, guiding Passage to their first senior hurling title in 2013 and also bringing Abbeyside and Roanmore to county finals.

A former Waterford Under 21 manager, he is overseeing Limerick's Kilmallock this season.

He was recommended by a selection committee including Michael Walsh (Ballyduff Upper), Eoin Murphy (Shamrocks), Seamus Prendergast (Ardmore), county secretary Pat Flynn and vice-chairman Neil Moore.

Queally is the first 'local’ to manage the Déise since Páraic Fanning in 2018.
