Airdrie to Albion Rovers switch for defender 'with a lot of energy'

Sandy Clark is happy to add some youthful energy to his Albion Rovers side after signing defender Corrie Fellows on loan from Monklands rivals Airdrieonians.

The 18-year-old signed up at Cliftonhill last week on a deal until the end of the season and could make his debut in this Saturday’s South Challenge Cup third round tie at Armadale Thistle.

Clark, who saw their league clash with Civil Service Strollers beaten by the weather on Saturday, said: “Corrie is a left-sided defender and we’ve been short in that area since the start of the season.

“I’ve known Corrie for a couple of years and I know he is a good player.

“He is still young yet and he needs games.

“It is a two-way street with these kinds of loans with young players; we give them a platform to develop and we hope they will give us some added strength and quality to our group.

“Hopefully the move works out and we look forward to seeing him playing.

“He is fit and ready to go. He trained with us last Thursday and on Saturday so he will be available for the weekend.”

Fellows has made one senior outing for the Diamonds, which came last month in their SPFL Trust Trophy win over Rovers’ Lowland League rivals Stirling University when he came on as an 80th minute substitute.

After joining Rovers, Fellows said: “I am delighted to be here. I just want to get minutes to help my development, and help Albion Rovers as well.

“I play left-back and I like to get act folk, up and down the line with a lot of energy.

“That’s what I think I bring and I back myself to defend really well also. I’m delighted to be with the boys. I knew Sandy before this so I know he can help me develop.”
