Scott Mollison nets "brilliant" free-kick as Jeanfield Swifts safely advance to main draw of Scottish Cup

Jeanfield Swifts welcomed a bumper crowd as they safely advanced into round one of the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

The Perth side navigated beyond Scottish Amateur Cup champions Cupar Hearts 3-0 in preliminary round two.

Goals from Chris McLeish, Scott Mollison and Chris Scott got the job done for Robbie Holden’s men.

McLeish had opened the scoring early doors from the penalty spot before Mollison curled in a peach of a free-kick. It was a wonderful piece of craftsmanship from the left-back.

The visitors rallied but Scott rounded off the victory as the game reached its latter stages.

“It probably was not the most fluid performance but, against a side who were well drilled and well prepared, we have won the game,” said Swifts manager Holden.

“I didn’t think it was vintage Jeanfield but we are in the first round of the Scottish Cup.

“People will call them amateurs but they are levels above that and a very well run club. They have top players.

“Despite not being at our best it’s important to remember they are a good side.”

Mollison’s impressive free-kick was worthy of particular praise.

Holden added: “Scott has done that a few times now. It was a brilliant goal and, given he was out for five weeks, it will have given him a huge lift.”
