Scott McTominay suspended for Manchester United vs Newcastle after Everton yellow card

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is suspended for the visit of Newcastle after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season against Everton.

Erik ten Hag opted to start the Scottish central midfielder on the bench for the visit to Merseyside having been impressed with Casemiro against Omonia Nicosia. However, in a move to sure up the United team with less than 10 minutes remaining McTominay was brought on to replace Christian Eriksen.

Just two minutes later though the 25-year-old was booked for a challenge. This was his fifth booking of the Premier League campaign having already been cautioned against Brighton, Brentford, Southampton and Arsenal.

McTominay will face just a one-match ban, which means he will miss the clash with Newcastle at Old Trafford on Sunday, October 16. United will go into that clash with Eddie Howe's team on the back of three points which they picked up at Goodison Park.

Alex Iwobi's excellent strike gave the Toffees the lead just five minutes into the game. Fortunately for Ten Hag, his side were level 10 minutes later as Antony placed a strike beyond the on-rushing Jordan Pickford.

United's winner would come through an all too familiar source, after Casemiro through ball was latched onto by Cristiano Ronaldo who fired in his 700th club goal. United return to action in the Europa League on Thursday night when they host Omonia and McTominay will be eligible for the fixture.
