Scott McTominay almost achieved Erling Haaland's 'biggest dream' with Manchester United brace vs Brentford

Manchester United arrested their poor start to the season in dramatic fashion on Saturday, Scott McTominay the hero with a late brace to beat Brentford 2-1.

Erik ten Hag had overseen United's worst start to a campaign in 39 years, having lost six of his opening 10 matches across all competitions. And that run looked set to extend when Mathias Jensen gave Brentford a first-half lead, capitalising on a string of unforced errors.

The scoreline stayed at 1-0 as 90 minutes passed, but United looked to have nicked a point when McTominay fired home on 93 minutes. The Reds academy graduate was not done either, heading home the winner and sending Old Trafford into rapture.

Having only been introduced in the 87th minute, McTominay was able to make an instant impact beyond anyone's realistic belief. And what made it even more incredible was that he scored twice with just four touches of the ball.

It was the definition of clinical from the 26-year-old, who came close to achieving Erling Haaland's self-confessed 'biggest dream' with such a high level of efficiency. The Norwegian was often criticised for not being involved in build-up play for Manchester City last season, but often silenced those critics with goals.

"My dream is to touch the ball five times and score five goals," Haaland admitted in September last year after scoring the winner for City against Borussia Dortmund. “That’s my biggest dream.”
