Scotland World Cup qualifiers confirmed as Steve Clarke's side try to reach Qatar

Scotland's World Cup fate will be decided in June, it has been confirmed.

Steve Clarke's side will host Ukraine in the semi-final at Hampden on Wednesday, June 1, with the winners then playing against Wales in Cardiff on Sunday, June 5.

The original clash was postponed due to the outbreak of war in Ukraine, as they continue to fight the Russian invasion.

Tickets for the original game remain valid, so it looks like that National Stadium will be packed for what is a vital clash.

Clarke's men have some key injuries to contend with, as defender Kieran Tierney and striker Kevin Nisbet have both undergone surgery, while Nathan Patterson is also crocked.

A statement from Scotland said: "Our FIFA World Cup Playoff Semi-Final against Ukraine will be played on Wednesday, 1 June.

“The winner of this match will face Wales in a Playoff Final on Sunday, 5 June.

“Tickets bought for the original Ukraine match remain valid.”

Scottish FA chief executive Ian Maxwell said: “Firstly, it will be great to be able to welcome to Ukraine to Hampden Park in June.

"While, understandably, there will be two sets of competitive players who are committed to taking another step closer to World Cup qualification, we also understand and appreciate the wider context in which the match will take place.

“We have been consistent throughout that postponing the original tie was the right and only thing to do and look forward to hosting Ukraine at Hampden Park in June.”

Kick-off times are yet to be confirmed by FIFA.
