Scotland U21 squad announced as Motherwell and Hamilton Accies stars earn call-ups

Motherwell star Max Johnston and Hamilton Accies ace Connor Smith have both been named in the Scotland under-21 squad for friendliy matches with Sweden and Wales later this month.

Scot Gemmill's side are playing both games in Spain at the Pinatar Stadium as preparation for the UEFA 2025 European U21 Championship qualifier, which will kick-off in September.

Johnston, who has been the subject of transfer speculation recently, has been in fine form for the Steelmen and bagged his first goal for the club in last month's 2-1 win over St Mirren.

Smith, who is on loan from Hearts, has had a great start to his spell at Accies, bagging three goals in six appearances so far.

The games take place in the build-up to and during Hamilton Accies' SPFL Trust Trophy clash with Raith Rovers, but Smith is cup tied for the big game.

Meanwhile, Accies and Motherwell also have representation at other age levels later this month.

Steelmen midfielder Lennon Miller has been selected for Scotland under-17s alongside Accies kids Ryan One and Gabe Forsyth, while Chrissy McGinn of Hamilton has received a call for the under-18s.

The Accies players' participation is in doubt due to the SPFL Trust Trophy final on March 26.
